Grooming and Caring for your skin
TIP When trying a new product, always test it first on a small amount of skin to ensure there is no reaction. If you ever experience skin irritation, please see a specialist as soon as possible.
Robin Bell, Tim Rowe and Ben St Lawrence, three of our well groomed sponsored athletes, are always being complimented on their youthful appearance. Hampered by at least 3 (quick) showers a day, along with air conditioning in their offices, it's easy for their skin to dry out. So, how do they keep up their youthful appearance? We attribute it to them looking after their skin... how? If we break it down into 4 simple steps, you should be ready to add this to your morning regime in no time. Remember, a great shave starts way before you start shaving.
1. Cleanse - always cleanse your skin before you shave. Cleansing lifts the bristles on your face and gives you a smoother, closer shave. Moisten your face for a few minutes before you start, as it also makes it easier for the blade to cut your hair.
2. Pre Shave Oil - Before shaving, apply a shave oil and/or lather. I would recommend both for sensitive skin. I recommend our Shaving Oil from La Riana, made from Olive Oil and manufactured by a small family business between San Remo and Monte Carlo in Italy. It comes in a 100ml package, which will last you forever, as you only have to use a few drops per shave! It lubricates your face and leaves it soft and silky smooth!
3. Shaving Soap - a lot of guys ask us what shaving soap to use. You can go for a foaming gel or a shave soap, which can be applied using a shaving brush. There is nothing more traditional than using a shaving brush with shaving soap. There are varying qualities of shaving brush, so don't skimp here. A good quality Badger Hair Shaving Brush will last you years. I won't go into the different types of badger hair, but basically, the quality is determined by which part the hair is taken from the badger animal. We stock 'best' badger and 'pure' badger. 4. Moisturise - No matter how well you follow your skin care plan, the regime is never complete, or completely beneficial, without the proper moisturiser. A good moisturiser can mean the difference between good skin right now and great skin for years to come. A good moisturiser should address three key things: hydration, sun protection and skin smoothing. For added benefit, a moisturiser can also contain wrinkle fighting additives, chemicals that help even out skin tone and ingredients that increase the firmness of facial skin. Once you find the perfect moisturiser, it is most beneficial to apply it twice a day (morning and night) to clean, dry skin. No matter how rushed you are, never skip this step in your cleansing routine.
